About the Illustrator
Tia Kalla is a Senior at the University of Arizona. She graduates with Honors in May of 2000 with a Bachelor of Arts degree. Kalla's Honor Thesis is titled: The Science of Spirituality and the Creative Mind. Drawn both to science and art, the areas of her triple major are: Humanities, Physiology and Anatomy, and Fine Art with an emphasis in Studio Art. Her future goals include attending Arizona State University for her Masters Degree in Fine Art, maintaining freelance illustration, and becoming a professional fine artist.
Kalla has had several illustrational positions. She has worked as an illustrator for an associate professor of Psychology at the University of Arizona illustrating figure- ground visual stimuli, as well as illustrating other visuals for two psychological research projects. In addition, Kalla sold figurative works to professors of surgery at the University of Arizona. Prior to that, the Mayo Clinic in Scottsdale commissioned Kalla to create a piece of work to become a part of their permanent art exhibit for the Tribute to the Woman Project in 1996. Of the 34 participating artists, Kalla was the youngest contributor.
Kalla is currently in her last semester of college at the University of Arizona. She is a member of several honors organizations. Kalla is working as: a Resident Assistant, the Publicity Relations Director for the Project Volunteer University Activity Board, a typist translator for disabled students at the Center for Disabled Resources, and as an advisor for the Dean of Student's Advisory Council at the University of Arizona.
